Spirit of 608: Fashion, Entrepreneurship, Sustainability + Tech

May 6, 2016

How good is your adulting game? Good? So good that you can semi-successfully feed the dog, make a doctor's appointment and mentally plan out the next 48 hours of your life all at the same time with possibly one or two small humans hanging off a body part? Well, here's a funny thing I'm willing to bet: a little teen advice will make your adulting game so much sweeter. At least, that's what happened for me when I sat down and talked to today's show guest Roxy Jamin, designer and co-creator of Jam & Bread, the new teen-centric line from L.A.-based children's clothing brand Twirly Girl (you can hear Roxy's mom, Cynthia, tell her story on the show in EP 45). As you'll hear in the intro, I was a little nervous before I interviewed Roxy because, like, old. Would I be able to relate? Would I try too hard? Would I start asking sadly pedestrian questions about Snapchat (answer: yes)? The thing is, along with her youthful entrepreneurial wisdom and refreshingly chill approach to social media, she brought some of that good old fashioned teen spirit to my mindset that day. If you've been too busy adulting to remember what that is, it's that thing where you notice artistically interesting parts of buildings and enthusiastically try new things without worrying that you're going to fail and wear weird clothes because you feel like expressing yourself on Instagram not because you're trying to amass a following because it's fun, dammit. Plus, she gives me a t-shirt motto idea I so want to make (if I can find a sustainable way to do it, that is).
