We see it all the time, but how many of us really know how clothing ends up on TV? For emerging and ethical designers, landing a piece of clothing or an accessory on a hit television show can be a major media moment, but how to make it happen? That part was far from clear to me until I got to speak to a television industry veteran who does exactly that in her exciting, ultra-creative career.
Meet this week's guest, Cynthia Summers, Costume Designer for Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce, Netflix's A Series of Unfortunate Events, Unreal + More.
On this week's show, I talk to Cynthia about her journey into costume design and onto the sets of hit television shows that have captured audiences on Bravo, Netflix, Showtime and many others. Along the way, Cynthia's decision to pursue a cruelty-free lifestyle led her to explore - and ultimately become an advocate for - sustainable, ethical and vegan fashion.
Listen in to hear Cynthia discuss the unexpected twists and turns in her career path, how she's built credibility while maintaining flexibility in where she lives and works and - because I know all you women in business are constantly looking for new ways to amplify your brands - how this longtime costume designer finds and works with the brand she features on her shows.
