Spirit of 608: Fashion, Entrepreneurship, Sustainability + Tech

Oct 11, 2016

How's this for a covet-worthy career path: quit PR job with $25 in your pocket to go off on your own. End up founding your own go-to-market agency. Realize that it's given you enough trial-and-error experience with startup clients to jump into the fray yourself. Found beauty membership company in just a few months. Watch it expand across the country in less than six. Want more?

Meet this week's guest, Nina Ojeda, founder and CEO of PRÊTE.

Episode deux in the Spirit of 608's October Media FEST-ival mini-series, today's conversation with Nina brings that triple threat of advice, experience and realness that's oh #so608. Not only did Nina strike out in her 20's to start her own company after a successful stint working for a very well-known Los Angeles-based family of stars, but she actually made it happen. After several years creating growth solutions for popular lifestyle startups through her agency The Avenue West, Nina pooled that knowledge into an entirely new company that basically grew directly out the agency itself. Dubbed PRÊTE (i.e. French for "ready"), the service connects its members with professionals in nearby salons for on-the-spot blowouts and manicures. Along with being her own ideal customer, Nina has the unfair advantage of launching a company with serious media, marketing and PR know-how (which of course we talk about because you know I can't help myself).

Listen to today's conversation for Nina's journey from PR girl to girl boss and beyond, but don't think she's just going to tell you the glossy, pretty parts of female entrepreneurship. Not a chance. Lucky for us, Nina is more than okay with being real about the tough times (her advice: learn how to embrace change and, don't try to fight it, some days you just gotta WFH). Plus, her recommendation for the national organization that every young entrepreneur must check out for networking and support you won't find anywhere else.
